New IB1 D Class for Hastings

Hastings is to take delivery of their new inshore lifeboat hopefully in the first quarter of 2008. .

The new IB1 D Class is due because the current D Class is nearly 10 years old and is due out of service next year.

The new boat is to be named 'Daphne May' in memory of donor's late mother who was a great supporter of the RNLI.

A local appeal was launched on 5th of August 2006 with a 2 year plan to raise £50,000 which would pay for the new boat, it's maintenance and some crew training costs. Unbelievably a total of almost £70,000 was raised in a little over 6 weeks, with one donor alone paying for the boat itself.

The Lifeboat crew and all involved with the station would like to thank all those who contributed and helped with the appeal.

It is hoped that the boat will be named in April 2008 depending on the build program, check back here for further news on the new boats arrival.
