4th January 2017 ILB 0853hrs
Hastings ILB was tasked this morning to assist a local fishing vessel with engine failure 3 miles SSE of the station. The ILB and her volunteer were quickly on scene and after establishing a tow, the 10m was brought safely back to the beach at Hastings.
13th January 2017 ILB 0605hrs
It was a cold and frosty start for our volunteer ILB crew this morning. Dover Coastguard received reports of a person in the water between the Pier and old Queens Hotel and requested the ILNB to assist. The ILB and her volunteer crew were quickly underway but was stood down shortly after launching as the person was reported to now be safely ashore. Also in attendance: Sussex Police & Hastings Coastguard Rescue Team.
30th March 2017 ILB
Hastings ILB was requested to launch this afternoon to assist a fishing vessel that had become disabled 1 mile east of the Station. The ILB and her volunteer crew were quickly on scene and after attaching a towline they brought the boat safely back to the harbour.
1st April 2017 ILB 1647hrs
Hastings ILB was requested to launch to a report of a person in the water at Pelham Place. The ILB started conducting a shoreline search whilst other Search & Rescue assets searched from shore. HM Coastguard helicopter was soon on scene. Information was later received that the location was incorrect and all SAR units were stood down. Also in attendance: SECAMB, Sussex Police & Hastings Coastguard Rescue Team.
11th April 2017 ILB 1122hrs
Hastings ILB was requested to launch at 11:22 today to assist Sussex Police with with male teenager who was thought to be at Cliff End, Pett. Once on scene the person was found and after 2 hrs of negotiation the crew managed to talk him down from the cliff and into the boat. He was then taken into custody by police at scene. The ILB stood down and returned to station. Also in attendance: Sussex Police, Hastings CRT & Rye Bay CRT.
22nd May 2017 ILB 2155hrs
The ILB was requested to launch after reports were received of a possible capsized vessel 1/4 mile south of Rock-a-Nore. The ILB and her volunteer crew were quickly on scene and after thorough area search and speaking with a local fisherman aboard his vessel, with nothing untoward found, the ILB was released, stood down and returned to station. Incident classed as a false alarm with good intent. Also in attendance Sussex Police and Hastings Coastguard Rescue Team.
24th May 2017 ILB 1616hrs
The ILB was called to a report of a possible kayaker in difficulty 1 mile south of St. Leonards-on-Sea. The ILB launched and was on scene a short time later. What was thought to have been a kayaker, was actually a bunch of partially submerged balloons. The ILB recovered the items and returned to station. Incident classed as a false alarm with good intent.
25th May 2017 ILB 2035hrs
Our crew was paged to launch the ILB at 20:35 after reports of a small boat drifting south of St. Leonards-on-Sea. Hastings Coastguard Rescue Team had the vessel visual, but were unable to verify if anyone was on board. Once on scene, the ILB crew found the vessel in a poor condition and was thought to have been set adrift. The vessel was taken ashore by the ILB crew and passed into the care of the Coastguard team to recover to a place of safety. The ILB was then released from the incident and returned to station.
27th May 2017 ALB 2228hrs
Hastings ALB was tasked to a vessel with machinery failure close inshore at Bexhill. Once on scene it was apparent that the casualty was in very shallow water and at anchor. It was decided to put a on the vessel prior to raising it’s anchor to stop the vessel drifting any closer inshore. Once the tow was established and working in waters as shallow as 1m at Jenny’s Stool, the anchor was raised and the vessel was towed due south into deeper water where the tow was re-made and the towed to Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne. The ALB was then stood down and returned to station.
30th May 2017 ILB 1941hrs
Hastings ILB and her Volunteer Crew were called into action at 19:41 this evening to reports of a vessel sinking off of St. Leonards-on-Sea. Once on scene the ILB crew discovered the unoccupied 4m vessel was at anchor, taking on water and starting to sink. The crew rigged an alongside tow and brought the vessel ashore where it was handed into the care of the owners and Hastings Coastguard Rescue Team. Once the vessel was ashore, the ILB crew was stood down and returned to station.
1st June 2017 ILB 1412hrs
Hastings ILB was requested to launch at 14:12 today after a lady suffered a suspected broken log on the beach in Bexhill. The ILB and her Volunteer Crew were quickly on scene and found the lady lying in the beach at the low water mark with the water coming in around her. The Volunteer Crew, one on whom is a Paramedic, made a rapid assessment and found the casualty to have a suspected fracture/dislocation of her hip. The crew log rolled her into a stretcher and along with Bexhill Coastguard they pulled the lady clear of the waters edge. The ambulance service soon arrived on scene and administered analgesia for her pain and was extricated up the beach to the ambulance. Once safely on board the volunteer crew were stood down and returned to station.
3rd June 2017 ILB 2048hrs
Hastings ILB was requested to launch at 20:48 this evening after a dinghy was found on the beach opposite Debenhams with some personal effects located inside. The ILB and her volunteer crew arrived on scene and commenced a shoreline search between the pier and the harbour arm, this included a thorough search under the pier. With nothing found and losing light the ILB was stood down and Coastguard Helicopter ‘Rescue 163’ was scrambled to continue the search with FLIR (Forward Looking Infra Red). Also in attendance, Hastings Coastguard Rescue Team.
13th June 2017 ILB 2110hrs
Hastings ILB was requested to launch at 21:10 following reports of multiple persons thought to be in difficulty by Caste Rocks – Once on scene it was found that no-one was in immediate difficulty. One crew member was put ashore along with Hastings Coastguard Rescue Team, one person who was intoxicated was encouraged out of the water and on the promenade. Safety advice was given and the person went on their way. All teams were then released from the incident, stood down and returned to station.
15th June 2017 ILB 1843hrs
Hastings ILB was requested to launch at 18:43 on 15th June 2017 for a kite surfer believed to be in difficulty near St. Leonards-on-Sea. The ILB and her volunteer crew launched within a few minutes but were stood down just west of the pier after the surfer had regained control.
16th June 2017 ILB 0026hrs
Hastings ILB was requested to launch at 00:26 this morning following reports of a missing person thought to have fallen from the cliffs at Ecclesbourne Glen. Police Officers and Hastings Coastguard Rescue Team confirmed that they were in visual contact with the casualty on the beach but were unable to reach them. The ILB and her volunteer crew were quickly on scene while the Coastguard team also made their was along the beach. The casualty was assessed and despite falling 10-15 feet was found to have sustained only a minor injury. It was therefore decided to walk the casualty off of the beach, after which she was passed into the care on the Ambulance Service. The ILB was then released, stood down and returned to station.
26th June 2017 ILB 1435hrs
Hastings ILB was requested to launch at 14:35 today to reports of multiple persons possibly in trouble or cut off by the tide at Hastings Harbour Arm. The ILB and her volunteer crew launched within a few minutes but after assessing the scene it was found the the group were all safely ashore and all accounted for. Hastings Coastguard Rescue Team were also in attendance. Safety advice was given.
4th July 2017 ALB 1821hrs
Hastings ALB was requested to launch at 1821hrs on 4th July 2017 to assist a yacht that had suffered machinery failure and was struggling to sail with little wind against the flood tide. The Lifeboat and her volunteer crew were quickly on scene 2 miles east of the station where 2 crew members transferred to the yacht and a tow with bridles was established. When safely under tow the yacht was taken to Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne. Once securely moored up in the locks at Eastbourne the 2 crew members were recovered and the Lifeboat was stood down. ALB returned to station at around 2230hrs.
9th July 2017 ILB 2033hrs
Hastings ILB was requested to launch at 2033hrs to assist two people in a kayak off of Fairlight who were having trouble paddling back against the tide.The ILB and her volunteer crew were quickly on scene and once the kayakers were safely on board, their craft was deflated and the were all brought back to the Harbour. ILB was then stood down.
13th July 2017 ILB 1320hrs
Hastings ILB was requested to launch at 1320hrs today to reports of a dog that had gone over the cliff just east of Ecclesbourne Glen, Fairlight. The ILB crew and her volunteer crew were quickly on scene to discover the owners of the animal on the beach and the dog visible and motionless on a small ledge 10 metres down from the cliff top. A crew member was put ashore to liaise with the owners before deciding to transfer them to the safety of the Lifeboat Station. Hastings Coastguard Rescue Team along with Rye Bay Coastguard and Bexhill Coastguard was also tasked. The ILB returned to the scene and made contact with the coastguards at the top of the cliff to give an exact location to where the dog was located. The cliff technicians then made an immediate decent down the cliff to retrieve the dog. Once safely secured the technician continued down the cliff to meet the ILB crew who then transferred the technician and the dog back to Hastings Lifeboat Station to be reunited with its owners. Luckily Trigger was unharmed.
15th July 2017 ILB 1446hrs
Hastings ILB was requested to launch at 1446hrs today to reports of an unconscious kite-surfer being dragged by his kite off of Marina, St Leonards. The ILB and her volunteer crew were quickly on scene and thankfully found the surfer to be safely ashore with his kite and did not require any medical assistance. The casualty confirmed that he was being dragged but managed to get himself to the beach, however his board was still missing.After a quick search of the area the board could not be located so the ILB was stood down. Hastings Coastguard Rescue Team also on scene.
15th July 2017 ILB 1803hrs
Dover Coastguard requested the immediate launch of Hastings ILB at 1803hrs today after reports of a person in the water on the western side of Hastings Pier and thought to be in difficulty. Once on scene the ILB located the casualty 100 yards from the shoreline. The crew checked on the casualties welfare. The person was fully clothed and was happily swimming. The casualty was advised to return to shore for his own safety. Once ashore the casualty was met by Sussex Police and Hastings Coastguard Rescue Team and given safety advice. The ILB the stood down and returned to station.
