Saturday 25th Aug 2012   ALB Launched at 1125 hrs

Weather: Wind  South West 7  Sea state Rough  Visibility Moderate to Poor(rain)

ALB Launched to report of a windsurfer in difficuties near the pier.  Both boats had been paged but due to the low water and sea conditions it was decided unsafe to launch the ILB so the ALB launched.

Once on scene 2 windsurfers and a kite surfer were visable to the lifeboat crew but none of these fitted the description from the 1st informant. station personel who were observing from the boathouse spotted a person matching the report,  laying down on a board near to the harbour arm.  The lifeboat proceeded to the area and found a paddle boarder who was not in trouble and he explained that he was in company with the other sailors as part of a sponsored event along the coast.

Just as the crew had finished speaking to the paddle boarder another report came from the boathouse that the kite surfer seem earlier was now down and in difficulties just to the west of the harbour arm.  The lifeboat made its way to the postion to find the sailor in a particularly pricarious position amongst the surf and backwash created by the large seas reflecting off the harbour arm.  The  lifeboat was put in a position to attempt recovery if the casualty had been swept in the the sea defences.  thankfully the kitesurfer made the shore before ending up in the rocks and was assisted out of the water by the council lifeguards.

By this time the organiser of the event was with the local coastguards and reported that there was 1 windsurfer unaccounted for.  The ALB was then tasked to start a search towards Rye bay.  after a while a report came in from a member of public that a windsurfer had come ashore just to the east of hastings pier, the local coastguards attended the scene and confirmed that this was the missing windsurfer.

With all now accounted for the lifeboat was released and returned to station.
